Sargassum Fish
Histrio histrio

The Sargassum fish lives almost entirely within floating rafts of brown Sargassum seaweed in tropical and subtropical seas. It waits motionless among the fronds before lunging at small fish, shrimp, and other crustaceans. Its irregular shape and mottled coloring make it exceptionally difficult to spot. Modified fins let it cling to and crawl through the weed rather than swimming continuously.
