Ant-eating Spider
Zodarion elegans
Zodarion elegans is a small ground-hunting spider found in dry, open habitats such as grassland, scrub, and rocky ground in parts of Europe. It stalks ants at close range, using ant-like appearance and movement to approach its specialized prey. A rapid bite injects venom that immobilizes an ant before the spider feeds. Unlike web-building spiders, it actively hunts on the ground and uses silk mainly for shelter and safety lines.
