Smooth Hammerhead
Sphyrna zygaena

Smooth hammerheads inhabit temperate and tropical coastal waters, continental shelves, and open ocean. They cruise actively near the surface or along the seafloor, feeding on bony fish, squid, crustaceans, and rays. Their broad, hammer-shaped head spreads the sensory organs apart, helping them detect prey hidden in sand and pinpoint electric signals. Unlike some related hammerheads, this species has a smoothly curved front edge to its head rather than a central notch.
