Greater Horseshoe Bat
Rhinolophus ferrumequinum

Greater horseshoe bats roost in caves, tunnels, cellars, and other dark, sheltered places across parts of Europe and Asia. At night they fly low over woodland edges and pasture, hunting moths, beetles, and other insects. They locate prey and navigate with highly specialized echolocation calls emitted through the nose. Their distinctive horseshoe-shaped nose leaf helps focus these sonar signals.
