Chinese Alligator
Alligator sinensis

Chinese alligators inhabit slow-moving freshwater wetlands, canals, ponds, and flooded fields of the lower Yangtze region. They ambush fish, amphibians, crustaceans, snails, and small vertebrates from the water's edge. Adults spend much of the day concealed in muddy water or among dense bank vegetation. This critically endangered crocodilian is one of the smallest living alligator species and can survive cold winters in burrows.
