Indian Red Scorpion
Hottentotta tamulus

The Indian red scorpion lives in tropical and subtropical parts of South Asia, sheltering beneath stones, logs, loose bark, and debris around human dwellings. Mostly nocturnal, it waits in ambush and seizes insects and other small invertebrates with its pincers before delivering a sting. Its hard exoskeleton offers protection, while its raised tail serves as a conspicuous warning. This species has medically important venom and is responsible for serious stings in parts of its range.
