Florida Ivory Millipede
Chicobolus spinigerus

The Florida ivory millipede lives in moist leaf litter, rotting wood, and sandy woodland soils across parts of Florida. It slowly searches the forest floor for decaying leaves, wood, fungi, and other decomposing plant material. When disturbed, it coils its long, pale body tightly and can release defensive chemicals with an unpleasant odor. Despite its many legs, it is a detritivore rather than a hunter and helps recycle nutrients in its habitat.
