Vietnamese Centipede
Scolopendra morsitans

The Vietnamese centipede is a fast-moving, mostly nocturnal predator found in leaf litter, under stones, and around other sheltered ground cover in warm regions. It hunts insects, spiders, and other small invertebrates, seizing prey with its front venom claws. When threatened, it raises and twists its body in a warning posture and can deliver a painful defensive sting. Despite its name, Scolopendra morsitans occurs widely across tropical and subtropical parts of the world.
