Altum Angelfish
Pterophyllum altum
Adult altum angelfish inhabit warm, slow-moving blackwater rivers and flooded forest margins of the Amazon basin. They hunt small fish, aquatic invertebrates, and insects near roots, branches, and vegetation. Their tall, laterally compressed bodies let them turn through dense submerged cover. The exceptionally high dorsal and anal fins give this species its distinctive triangular profile.
