Purple-Ring Topsnail
Calliostoma annulatum
This marine snail lives on rocky reefs and kelp-covered shores along the Pacific coast. It creeps over hard surfaces and scrapes algae, diatoms, and other film-like growth with its radula. Its conical shell is patterned with purple rings and offers protection when the animal withdraws inside.
