Honduran Curly Hair Tarantula
Tliltocatl albopilosus
This terrestrial tarantula lives on the forest floor of Honduras, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica, sheltering in burrows, crevices, or silk-lined retreats. It waits near cover and ambushes insects and other small invertebrates with a sudden lunge and venomous bite. When threatened, it may rear up, expose its fangs, or kick irritating urticating hairs from its abdomen. Its distinctive curled, golden-brown body hairs give it a shaggy appearance.
