Brazilian Red and White Tarantula
Nhandu chromatus

The Brazilian red and white tarantula inhabits savanna-like cerrado, scrub, and disturbed forest edges in Brazil, usually sheltering in burrows, crevices, or beneath debris. It is a nocturnal ambush hunter that takes insects and other small invertebrates, overpowering prey with its fangs and venom. When threatened, it raises its front legs in a warning posture and can kick irritating urticating hairs from its abdomen. Its bold black, white, and red-orange pattern makes it one of the most conspicuous large tarantulas in the pet trade.
