Phantom Darner
Triacanthagyna trifida
The adult Phantom Darner patrols forested wetlands, ponds, and marsh edges, often becoming active around dusk. It catches mosquitoes, moths, and other flying insects in mid-air with its spiny legs and strong jaws. Despite its large size, its muted coloration and twilight flight make it surprisingly difficult to spot.
