Brazilian Black Tarantula
Grammostola pulchra

The Brazilian black tarantula lives on the ground in grasslands, forest edges, and other sheltered habitats of southeastern Brazil. It spends much of the day in a burrow or hide, emerging mainly at night to ambush insects and other small invertebrates. Like other tarantulas, it subdues prey with a venomous bite and can flick irritating abdominal hairs when threatened. Its velvety jet-black coloration and generally calm defensive behavior have made it especially well known among tarantula keepers.
