Chinese Fire-Bellied Newt
Hypselotriton orientalis
Adults spend much of their time in shallow, cool ponds with dense aquatic vegetation. They stalk insect larvae, worms, and small crustaceans, especially during low-light hours. When threatened, an adult can arch its body to expose its vivid warning-colored belly while releasing toxic skin secretions.
