Common Ogre-Faced Spider

Common ogre-faced spiders inhabit woodland and forest-edge vegetation in parts of East Asia, resting among low shrubs and branches by day. At night they hold a small, stretchy silk net between their front legs and rapidly cast it over passing insect prey. They feed mainly on flying and crawling insects captured in this net, then subdue them with a venomous bite. Their exceptionally large rear eyes give them unusually strong low-light vision for a spider.
