Saddleback Red Dragonfly
Orthetrum chrysis
Adults patrol sunny ponds, marshes, and open waterside clearings with swift, direct flight. They catch mosquitoes, midges, and other small flying insects in the air using their spiny legs. Males often return to favored perches and chase away rival dragonflies from their territory.
