Leafcutter Ant (alate)
Atta laevigata

This winged reproductive ant emerges from a mature underground colony and takes part in mating flights during suitable warm, humid weather. Adults feed on sugary liquids and use strong mandibles for handling food and defense. After mating, a female sheds her wings and may found a new fungus-growing colony.
