Perna canaliculus

Adults form dense beds on rocky coasts and suspended aquaculture lines around New Zealand. They filter phytoplankton and other tiny particles from seawater through their gills. The long, green-edged shell is a distinctive feature and closes tightly against many predators and exposure at low tide.
