Short-Tailed Pipefish
Microphis brachyurus

Adults inhabit slow-moving freshwater rivers, estuaries, and vegetated brackish channels, where their narrow bodies blend with stems and drifting debris. They stalk tiny shrimp and other small crustaceans, rapidly sucking prey through their tubular snouts. Males carry developing eggs in a brood pouch beneath the tail before releasing fully formed young.
