Leaf Fish
Monocirrhus polyacanthus
Adult Leaf Fish inhabit still or slow Amazonian forest waters where leaf litter, roots, and aquatic plants provide cover. They are ambush predators, feeding chiefly on small fish and aquatic insects that approach within striking distance. The compressed body, irregular outline, and projecting lower-jaw flap make an adult remarkably convincing imitation of a dead leaf.
