American Bittern Fledgling
Botaurus lentiginosus (fledgling)

A fledgling American Bittern is nearly marsh-colored, with growing flight feathers and a lanky wading build. It practices short flights and careful steps through dense wetland vegetation while still improving its hunting skills. Its diet shifts toward small fish, frogs, aquatic insects, and other prey it can snatch in shallow water. When alarmed, it may freeze upright with its bill pointed skyward, blending into vertical reed stems.
