Magpie Shrike
Lanius melanoleucus
The magpie shrike inhabits open savanna, dry woodland, scrub, and thorny country across parts of southern Africa. It hunts from exposed perches, dropping onto large insects, lizards, and other small prey. Like other shrikes, it may impale prey on thorns or barbed wire, creating a stored food cache.
