Desert Horned Viper
Cerastes cerastes

The desert horned viper inhabits sandy deserts, dunes, and dry rocky margins across North Africa and the Middle East. It spends much of the day concealed beneath sand, emerging to ambush rodents, lizards, and birds. Its raised eye horns help break up its outline, while its distinctive sidewinding movement lets it cross loose, scorching sand efficiently.
