Many-horned Adder
Bitis cornuta

The adult many-horned adder inhabits arid dunes, gravel plains, and rocky scrublands in Namibia and South Africa. It is a patient ambush predator, remaining buried or motionless until rodents, lizards, or birds come close enough for a rapid strike. Its numerous raised scales give it a horned appearance, while its mottled coloring blends remarkably well with desert sand.
