Black Phantom Tetra
Megalamphodus megalopterus
Adults inhabit slow-moving, plant-filled tributaries and floodplain waters in the Guaporé and upper Paraguay drainages. They pick small crustaceans, insect larvae, and bits of plant matter from the water column. Males use their enlarged dark fins and prominent shoulder patch in display contests, giving the fish its phantom-like appearance.
