Phainopepla
Phainopepla nitens
Adult Phainopeplas inhabit desert washes, dry woodlands, and areas rich in mistletoe across the southwestern United States and Mexico. They fly quickly between perches, feeding heavily on mistletoe berries while also catching insects in the air. Males are glossy black with a crest, while females are soft gray; both can spread mistletoe seeds through their droppings.
