Cape Cobra
Naja nivea

The Cape Cobra inhabits dry grassland, scrub, semi-desert, and farmland across southern Africa. It hunts mainly rodents, but also takes birds, eggs, lizards, and other small animals. When threatened, it raises the front of its body, spreads its hood, and hisses before striking with potent venom.
