False Map Turtle
Graptemys pseudogeographica

False map turtles inhabit large rivers, oxbows, lakes, and quiet backwaters with plentiful basking sites. They often climb onto logs or banks to warm themselves, then slip quickly into the water when disturbed. Adults eat aquatic insects, mollusks, crayfish, fish, and vegetation, with females often taking larger hard-shelled prey. Their map-like shell markings become more subdued as the turtle matures.
