Collared Forest Falcon
Micrastur semitorquatus
The Collared Forest Falcon inhabits dense lowland and foothill forests from Mexico through much of Central and South America. It hunts from concealed perches, making rapid flights through the understory to seize birds, reptiles, and small mammals with its talons. Unlike many conspicuous raptors, it is often heard before it is seen, giving loud calls from within the forest.
