Orange Baboon Tarantula
Pterinochilus murinus

The orange baboon tarantula is a terrestrial tarantula of dry savannas and scrublands in southern and eastern Africa. It shelters in silk-lined burrows, rock crevices, or abandoned holes, emerging chiefly at night to ambush insects and other small prey. When disturbed, it raises its front legs, exposes its fangs, and may stridulate by rubbing body parts together in warning. Its vivid orange coloration and notably defensive temperament have made it a well-known species in the pet trade.
