African Burrowing Scorpion
Hottentotta hottentotta

The African burrowing scorpion lives in dry savannas, scrublands, and sandy soils, spending much of the day in a self-dug burrow or natural shelter. It emerges mainly at night to ambush insects and other small arthropods, detecting vibrations with sensitive hairs on its body. Prey is seized with the pincers and subdued with a venomous sting when needed. Its burrow provides protection from extreme heat, dehydration, and predators.
