Asian Forest Scorpion
Heterometrus petersii

Asian forest scorpions inhabit humid forest floors in Southeast Asia, sheltering beneath logs, stones, and leaf litter. They are mostly nocturnal ambush hunters that seize insects and other small invertebrates with their large pincers. A sting is used chiefly for defense or to subdue difficult prey, while the strong claws do much of the handling. Despite their imposing size, their venom is generally considered mild to humans, though stings are painful.
