Trieste Scorpion
Euscorpius tergestinus
The Trieste scorpion lives in shaded, humid places across parts of northeastern Italy and the western Balkans, sheltering beneath stones, bark, and in wall crevices. It is mostly active at night, waiting in ambush for small insects, spiders, and other invertebrates. Its pincers restrain prey while the curved tail delivers a sting when needed. Like other scorpions, its body fluoresces brightly under ultraviolet light.
