Smooth Stingray
Bathytoshia brevicaudata

Smooth stingrays inhabit shallow coastal waters, estuaries, and sandy bays around southern Australia and New Zealand. They often rest partly buried in sand, ambushing fish, crustaceans, and molluscs before crushing prey with broad jaws. This very large ray has a venomous tail spine used chiefly to defend itself when threatened.
