Eastern Melampus
Melampus bidentatus

Eastern melampus adults inhabit brackish marshes, mangrove edges, and tidal debris along the Atlantic coast. They forage mainly at night or in humid weather, scraping algae and detritus from vegetation and mud. Although a snail, this air-breathing mollusk can tolerate periodic flooding and closes itself within its shell during harsh conditions.
