Spiny Orb-weaver
Oxyopes ramosus
The spiny orb-weaver lives among low vegetation, shrubs, and grasses in open, sunny habitats. It is an active visual hunter that stalks and leaps onto small insects rather than waiting in a large capture web. Its venom subdues prey, while its long, spiny legs help it grip foliage and react quickly. Despite its name, Oxyopes ramosus is a lynx spider and does not build the classic circular orb web used to catch prey.
