Southern Caracara
Caracara plancus
Southern Caracaras inhabit open grasslands, savannas, wetlands, and agricultural country across southern South America. They forage on foot as well as in flight, taking carrion, insects, eggs, reptiles, and small animals. Unlike many falcons, they are notably opportunistic walkers that often investigate food on the ground.
