Fiery Searcher Beetle
Calosoma alternans
This metallic ground beetle patrols open woodland, fields, and garden edges, usually staying close to the ground. It is an active nocturnal predator that chases caterpillars, larvae, and other small invertebrates. Despite having wings, it commonly runs down prey with impressive speed rather than flying.
