Eastern Lubber Grasshopper
Romalea microptera
The adult eastern lubber grasshopper inhabits weedy fields, forest margins, gardens, and other warm, open habitats in the southeastern United States. It slowly climbs through vegetation to chew a broad range of leaves and flowers. Although it has wings, it is a poor flier and instead relies on warning colors, a tough body, and foul defensive secretions.
