Bombus (Calyptapis) florissantensis
Bombus (Calyptapis) florissantensis

This extinct bumble bee inhabited the flowering woodlands around the Oligocene Florissant lake in what is now Colorado. Adults flew between blossoms to drink nectar and collect pollen, likely serving as important pollinators. Dense body hairs helped trap pollen and may also have helped retain warmth during cool mountain conditions.
