Formica heteroptera Larva
Formica heteroptera (larva)
This soft, pale larva remains deep within a protected nest chamber in woodland or grassland soil. It is fed regurgitated liquids and small pieces of insects by adult workers, and can also chew solid food with its small jaws. Unlike the active adults, it has no legs and moves only by wriggling.
