Common Mayfly
Ephemera vulgata
The adult common mayfly inhabits the air around rivers, streams, and nearby damp grassland. It does not feed as an adult, relying instead on energy stored during its nymphal life. Adults fly to find mates and lay eggs, and their brief winged lives may last only a few days.
