Columba pisana Chick
Columba pisana (chick)
This nest-bound chick is raised in a sheltered nest on a cliff ledge, building, or other protected structure. It huddles for warmth and gives persistent begging calls when a parent arrives. At first it is fed nutrient-rich crop milk, later receiving softened seeds and grains. Both parents can produce crop milk, an unusual trait among birds.
