Sciurus spectabilis
Sciurus spectabilis
The Himalayan giant squirrel lives in montane forests of the Himalaya and adjoining ranges, spending most of its time high in the canopy. It moves quickly along branches and makes long leaps between trees, using its large bushy tail for balance. Its diet includes fruits, nuts, seeds, bark, leaves, and flowers. Its richly colored coat can vary greatly across its range, from chestnut and cream to nearly black.
