Large-Billed Blackbird Chick
Euphagus magnirostris (chick)
This downy chick remains in a sheltered nest site while its parents bring it food. It begs loudly and is fed a diet of insects and other small invertebrates, with softer plant matter added as it grows. Its bill develops rapidly during this stage, preparing it for the broader adult diet. Young chicks are vulnerable to exposure and predators before their flight feathers are fully grown.
