Aphanius crassicaudus
Aphanius crassicaudus

Aphanius crassicaudus was a small killifish of brackish coastal lagoons and marshes along the northern Adriatic coast of Italy. It moved through shallow, plant-filled water, feeding on tiny aquatic invertebrates, insect larvae, algae, and organic debris. Males were more brightly patterned than females and displayed to rivals and potential mates. The species is considered extinct, following severe loss and alteration of its restricted wetland habitat.
