Columba micula Chick
Columba micula (chick)
This downy chick remains sheltered in a nest within forested Pacific-island habitat. It is fed crop milk and later softened seeds and fruit regurgitated by its parents. Still unable to fly, it defends itself mainly with a sharp peck and by crouching low. Like other young pigeons, it grows rapidly while dependent on parental feeding.
