Ischnura velteni Damselfly Nymph
Ischnura velteni (nymph)

This aquatic nymph lives among submerged vegetation in still or slow-moving freshwater. It waits motionless before lunging at tiny aquatic insects and other invertebrates with its extendable lower jaw. Its mottled body helps it remain concealed on stems and debris. Unlike the adult, it has no functional wings and breathes using internal gills.
