Round-mouthed Snail
Pomatias elegans

The round-mouthed snail is a terrestrial operculate snail found in calcareous woodland, hedgerows, leaf litter, and other damp sheltered ground across parts of Europe. It emerges in humid conditions to graze algae, decaying plant material, fungi, and other organic films with its radula. During dry or cold weather it can retreat into its sturdy spiral shell and seal the opening with an operculum, a hard door-like structure. It also digs into loose soil to shelter and to lay eggs.
